Privacy Policy
EFFECTIVE AUGUST 16, 2026 · UNITED STATES
Vet Activities (“we,” “us”) runs a community board where U.S. veterans post and find real-world events. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the control you have over it. We collect the minimum needed to run the service — no ad networks, no data brokers, no selling your data.
What we collect
- Account & profile — email, display name, username, and anything you add to your profile (bio, home city/state, and optional service background such as branch, era, and MOS).
- Content you create — events you host, RSVPs, saved events, connections, and messages you send to other members.
- Verification — verifying veteran status is optional. If you choose to, you upload evidence of service (for example a DD-214 or VA card) to private storage that only you and our review staff can access; a staff member reviews it and records the outcome (verified / not). You can delete your uploaded documents at any time, and they are permanently removed when your account is purged. If we later offer verification through a third-party service such as ID.me, what you share with that service will be governed by its own privacy policy and we will update this one.
- Technical — basic logs and device/push tokens needed to deliver notifications and keep the service secure. Approximate location is used only to show nearby events; we do not track your continuous location.
How we use it
To operate the board: show you nearby events, let you RSVP and message hosts, deliver the notifications you opt into, verify veteran status, and keep the community safe (moderation, abuse prevention). Image moderation runs on our own servers — photos are not sent to outside AI services. We do not use your data for advertising or sell it to third parties.
Who can see your data
Your profile visibility is yours to set — public, attendees-only, or private. Exact event locations can stay hidden until you RSVP. Messages are visible to the members in that conversation. We run our own infrastructure wherever possible — the database, email delivery, and image moderation are all self-hosted. The service providers that do handle limited data are our hosting provider (Hostinger, where our servers run), Apple (push notifications to your device), and Google (only if you sign in with Google).
Retention & deletion
You can delete your account at any time from your account settings. Deletion deactivates the account immediately and permanently purges your personal data after a 30-day grace window (profile, photos, verification documents, RSVPs, saved events, connections, and hosted events). Messages you sent remain for the other participants but are anonymized to “Deleted user.” Copies of purged data can persist in our encrypted backups for up to six months before rotating out; backups are used only for disaster recovery, never to restore deleted accounts. You can also download a copy of your data as JSON from the same screen.
Your choices
- Edit or hide profile details, including service background, at any time.
- Control which email notifications you receive.
- Download your data or delete your account from account settings.
Children
Vet Activities is for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from minors.
